Theater Arts are right for schools

Not much time to write, so I will just share an article by Caroline Parker, director of storytelling and strategy for EducationNC, about a wonderful theater teacher that reminds us in this era of cutting the forest of liberal arts and digging up the earth to make way for that precious workforce pipeline, that we remember how working in the theater prepares young people for real life. In the theater, students learn to work cooperatively, hone their critical thinking skills, build social networks as they work towards a common goal, read and analyze complex texts, as well as develop emotional intelligence. I found that studying acting helped me to be a better student and teacher. And now it is helping me stay active and happy as a retired person in her mid-sixties.

Long live Theater Arts in education!
