I am
Keeping my place
Like a bookmark on a page
In an old, shelved book
That once marked a quote
Someone wanted to remember.
I am
Curling inward
Like autumn’s fallen leaves
in forgotten piles.
They littered the lawn but
Someone forgot to burn them.
I am
Preparing to go
To leave this room
So new and clean
No place here
for one as
Musty
As me.

Good poem! Always something a little sad about leaving an office (or any place that’s become part of your life), even when you want to go.
So true! Bittersweet, mostly sweet. Thanks for the comment
What a beautiful and emotionally touching poem that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of leaving a phase of life behind.
Thank you for the kind words, Hope! I really enjoyed our talk the other day.
